Welcome to CryptoArt Sundays art lovers! This week I am excited to introduce you all to Mehak Jain, an incredible artist from India.
His artworks are instilled with a sense of magic, wonderment, and mystical flavours. Mehak is a creator of stories and a seeker of answers. He also has an immenese passion for chess amongst all his creative endeavours.
Now let’s dive in and find out about his experience in the NFT space!
I was a traditional artist before NFTs and was reached by someone in Feb 2020 on my Facebook art page where they shared about NFTs. The idea of selling JPEGs surprised me. I honestly thought that was a scam, and asked for resources where I could learn about this weird world hahah.
And as I dug deeper, interacted with people in this space, I realised this is the place I want to spend my time in. The welcoming community, encouraging people and the curiosity of everyone here was so unique and refreshing. I loved being with the community and it immediately became a place where I felt so comfortable sharing and talking about my works.
I am a slow creator now. Initially in 2020 I used to create 3-4 pieces a month, but now it’s hardly one work a month. I think of it as artistic growth. Being able to dedicate so much time to one piece feels satisfying.
My process of creating has become complicated too, where I do research of every small detail, go in depth of any feeling, try to understand it, experiment with it, and then only I feel I could create it. It is like I am growing as a human with every work. And that work should show the growth.
My inspiration is based on my life and people I interact with. Every journey, experience has potential to teach us a lot, even the slightest of action. Our brain is a mystery for us to keep solving. The unconscious mind especially. We grow each day, and I just attempt to visualise all that.
My process is simple:
2) Note down the feelings and triggers
4) Learn from every little detail
5) be unbiased while creating
6) Keep artwork open to every perspective and different interpretations
In my opinion art’s purpose is to provide a safe place for viewers to find their own answers. My goal isn’t to show the solution of a feeling but to let people discover that feeling and be part of the process. To come closer to themselves through art. To be able to imagine themselves in the situation, resonate with it, and know that they aren’t alone.
We all have our own demons to fight It is important to understand the whys of our actions and thought process, even the most irrelevant ones too, because they originate from learned patterns.
Yes, many – Xcopy, Matt Kane, Josie Bellini, Pak.
I think we are still early. I believe every artist will own their own contract, many more possibilities will be created from platform’s side in matters of tools. Like Async Art is one which let creators use the medium in more innovative ways.
One thing most special about CryptoArt is its involvement of collectors in the whole process. I think more innovation of mixing the three (art, creators and collectors) for an artwork would be the future. A viewer completes the artwork, and if that viewer could leave a mark on the piece, that I feel would be beautiful to see. With a mark I don’t mean actual creation, but a symbolic blockchain statement of it. Right now I consider an owner being able to change a layer on async as that message.
Hmm, this year my plan is to focus on two themes majorly, one is chess-related works. I am a professional chess player since 11+ years. And I really enjoy having community around my chess works. It feels that I am continuing a childhood dream of mine through chess art.
Another is creating works based on my life’s journey and pivotal events, which is turning out to be more difficult than I imagined hahah. I have always wanted to be heard, to share my stories with people, and I guess these would be my most personal creations so I am not rushing it at all.
I mostly mint on AsyncArt, KnownOrigin and Rarible currently. This link has all the details of platforms I have works on, galleries and write ups of my art for in depth understanding.
